We got up this morning and had our free breakfast at LaQuinta. Eggs, sausage and oatmeal. Off to Oklahoma City. First stop at three stands vintage antiques. Was nice. Next stop Feathered Nest  then we made our way to 23rd Street Antique Mall   They had true antiques, was very nice to look. We then decided to head to Route 66 area. There is construction everywhere near the Route 66 areas but we found the best restaurant on our trip.  Cheevers was very good. Waitress gave us a post card , the building was built in 1927, by Oklahoma Belle, the first baby born in Oklahoma City. White linen table cloths and the flood was excellent. It is in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Route 66 areas we left there headed to three more antique shops saw a lot of homeless all day. Ended at Sleep Inn a choice hotel  in Yukon Oklahoma. Nice room. Was a nice day!!

Day 2 route66 trip Oklahoma city

We had a rough night sleeping at the motor court. Bed very small and very soft. We got up a 5:30 am. Took showers and left at 6:10 for breakfast at a Route 66 diner down the street. Very nostalgic. Lots of memorabilia.  Breakfast was good except out of bacon. So onward we went to Tulsa Oklahoma. Stopped at a rest stop McDonald’s and quick trip type store. Very cool the McDonald’s was up stairs and you looked out and realized we were right over the highway. So our first stop in Tulsa was the Route 66 Historic village. It was closed but got pics of the tallest oil derrick, and Frisco 4500 steam engine. They also had a Red Fork Depot, but it was also closed. We tried to stop at the blue whale in catoose,. Was closed also no where to get pictures. Went to cave house closed, art museum closed. Passed many Route 66 signs, with no place to park for pics. Lots of construction passed many Route 66 signs. We ended up at the air and space museum, which was nice but kids day. Had a nice ...

Route 66 trip may 12 2026

It is Tuesday morning and we are headed to Springfield Missouri, the first stop on day one. Adventure begins. Lunch at Smiths restaurant in Bolivar Mo. First impression was poor, the chicken was brought out nearly raw and they were out of baked potatoes. Frank’s pork tenderloin looked good.  Waitress said new cook. They took $5 off our meal. The jury is out til later on to see how I feel. They did cook it better on second try. So next stop Route 66 car museum. Awesome 50 or so old cars . Found out talking with the guy who took our money. The owner has sold all the cars to Mecum in Florida. Will be closed by next April. One is going to the United Kingdom and one to Westminster. Was nice to hear history The next stop we went to Bass Pro.  Huge - they have a wildlife museum, aquarium, photography museum and nascar. Took 3 hours to go through and they had a route 66 special $66 total, instead of $49 each. It was good but a little long. Now to our Motel, Rookwood Motor Court....
