Day 2 route66 trip Oklahoma city

 We had a rough night sleeping at the motor court. Bed very small and very soft. We got up a 5:30 am. Took showers and left at 6:10 for breakfast at a Route 66 diner down the street. Very nostalgic. Lots of memorabilia.  Breakfast was good except out of bacon. So onward we went to Tulsa Oklahoma. Stopped at a rest stop McDonald’s and quick trip type store. Very cool the McDonald’s was up stairs and you looked out and realized we were right over the highway. So our first stop in Tulsa was the Route 66 Historic village. It was closed but got pics of the tallest oil derrick, and Frisco 4500 steam engine. They also had a Red Fork Depot, but it was also closed. We tried to stop at the blue whale in catoose,. Was closed also no where to get pictures. Went to cave house closed, art museum closed. Passed many Route 66 signs, with no place to park for pics. Lots of construction passed many Route 66 signs. We ended up at the air and space museum, which was nice but kids day. Had a nice man who was a pilot tell us about American MD80 plane and tour. We left and went for bbq at Burnco in Jenk Oklahoma on the river. Good food but not Kansas bbq. We then went and got to our hotel  La Quinta. Very nice big bed yea!   Walked next door to sports academy and picked up two USA shirts. I took a little swim, then later we went to Braun’s for a yogurt ice cream. Was quite a day of driving - too much and not seeing much. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Grand Canyon - Day 4

Today we started the morning at McDonald’s with coffee and biscuits. We can tell we are in a tourist spot. $8.79 for a egg and cheese biscuit. Big Macs are $12 for the sandwich only, (we didn't buy one). We headed to the park at 8:30. There was a line but was only 10-15 minutes long. We drove the Desert View drive on 64 highway, 22 very scenic miles. We stopped 4 or 5 times to see very awesome views of the canyon. There was a tower at one spot, but an hour and a half wait to go up in it, so we passed.  One stop was a National Historic Landmark Hallowed Ground. On June 30th, 1956  a TWA Super Constellation and DC-7 collided midair (over the canyon) and killed 128 passengers. It was the deadliest crash in American commercial aviation history at the time. The spot is called Temple Chura Buttes. After it happened, congress created the FAA to increase air safety.  We also stopped at Tusyan ruins that was sort of a bust except I got a pair of earrings. Albuquerque - Day 2

We left Oklahoma City at 8 AM, headed to Albuquerque NM. We drove 543 miles.  Very flat terrain driving. Lots of wind turbines. Saving the planet I guess. Lol. Saw oil derricks throughout the state.  W e stopped in Amarillo, Texas at a quilt/cross stitch shop (The Knotted Thread) where Cindy bought a pattern and I bought a little material. Wanted to buy a Jerome sewing machine but no room in car. Hade a nice lunch at Jason’s deli. Made it to Albuquerque at 4:00.  We wanted to go up a mountain (Sandia Peak Tramway) but they said they sold out of tickets 5 minutes prior to us getting there. We did go up to the lodge and took a few pictures.  Decided to eat local at County Line Bbq. We all rated it a 6-7 but enjoyed it. Headed to hotel Homewood Suites. Nice big room settled in for the night.  We have had breakfast at both hotels. Frank rated yesterday better than today. I liked them both. Heading to Tusayan (Grand Canyon) tomorrow. Day 8 - Zion

 We meet at 8:30 for our complementary breakfast at our Hotel. Left at 9:15 for the park. We drove 20 miles to entrance of the park. So happy we had a park pass from last year. We saw signs that parking lots were full but continued into the park . Frank decided to drive the Zion Mount Carmel Highway since no parking spots to be found. Was beautiful scenery all the way and we went through a mile long tunnel. We then turned around and went back to find parking to take the buses up. The bus had 6 stops. We decided to go to the top, then stop on the way down. Temple of Sinawava was the top.  We walked about a half mile took some pictures of the streams.And walked back to get on the bus and discovered each stop required hiking to see anything. The men do not like to hike, so it was a BUST. So we rode the bus back down to the entrance of the park then had to get on another one to get to our car. The buses were packed. Got to stand up all the way, on the way down we found seats....
