Day 5 - Las Vegas - Here we come

We got up and went for local fare,  Foodies was good for breakfast. I had a veg omelet, Frank had eggs and bacon, Cindy and Lloyd had French toast   Said it was very crispy on the outside. I failed to get pictures. You know I am new to this. 

So we left the Red Feather lodge at 9 am. Onward to Vegas on Route 66 (I-40). Drove by way of Kingman, Arizona.  Saw many more wind turbines - it was flat for awhile then we went through the McCullough Mountains. Drove by Hoover dam but couldn't see anything but power lines because of new roads and high side walls. Thought I saw water but ended up being solar panels. Tricking my eyes. 



Made it to Vegas in 4:50 minutes. Drove 273 miles today. First stop Stitchers Paradise. 


Cindy got some things and I bought her a pattern for her to make for me. He, He! They were very friendly gave us ideas for lunch and ended up driving to a new Casino not too far away. The casino was named Durango. Was very nice and new. They had a courtyard of different eateries. I, Cindy, and Lloyd got burgers at Irv’s Burgers.  Frank chose a salad from another place. Lloyd and Cindy did not get the food as fast as me so I left to play a little video poker. Played 20 minutes on $10.00 and got it all back. 



Next stop Luxor where we are staying until Thursday. We encountered long lines but went fairly quickly to check in. They had a  kiosk to get in without lines but would not work because we booked 3rd party. Live and learn. 



Went and got in our rooms then started to explore. Cindy and I sat to play video porker, her first spin won her over $100. She cashed out then just played 20.00  I went and lost my 20.00. Explored some more. 


Cindy and I stopped at the bar and played video poker. Because we were play they comp'ed drinks for the guys. I got lucky and won over a $100 also. So then we tried to find eateries and ended up at Luxor’s court yard. Nothing to write home about. 


Then the real exploring began. Frank wanted to to see the Sphere at night  So Luxor to Excalibur to New York New York, then MGM grand hotels then up to a hotel garage and finally got to see it. Was quite alot of walking there and back. Got our steps in. Luckily there is alot of walkways. We ended back at Luxor  at 11:30 but it was beautiful 80’s.

Grand Canyon - Day 3

We left Albuquerque NM at  8:30 AM  heading to Tusayan, AZ. We drove 408 miles. We stopped along the way at Tom and Susie Diner in Holbrook, AZ.    Food was ok. Nothing to write home about for local flavor.  As we made our way to Tusayan, we stopped and went through the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest National Park. We saw a mini Grand Canyon and lots of petrified wood. Stopped at a gift shop and that petrified wood is expensive. One polished slab had a  price  tag of $24,000.  Outside of Flagstaff, we saw the San Francisco mountain range. Some peaks still had snow on them.  We made it in time to drive to the Grand Canyon South Rim from our hotel, the Red Feather Lodge, only 5 miles from the south gate. Beautiful seeing the South rim. Day 8 - Zion

 We meet at 8:30 for our complementary breakfast at our Hotel. Left at 9:15 for the park. We drove 20 miles to entrance of the park. So happy we had a park pass from last year. We saw signs that parking lots were full but continued into the park . Frank decided to drive the Zion Mount Carmel Highway since no parking spots to be found. Was beautiful scenery all the way and we went through a mile long tunnel. We then turned around and went back to find parking to take the buses up. The bus had 6 stops. We decided to go to the top, then stop on the way down. Temple of Sinawava was the top.  We walked about a half mile took some pictures of the streams.And walked back to get on the bus and discovered each stop required hiking to see anything. The men do not like to hike, so it was a BUST. So we rode the bus back down to the entrance of the park then had to get on another one to get to our car. The buses were packed. Day 6 - Las Vegas

We got up and met the Wilsons at 8:30 for breakfast at the Luxor. Food was very good but $22 for two eggs, three strips of bacon and some toast is ridiculous. Add another $5 for coffee. We drove around to explore. Drove down Las Vegas Blvd. heading toward the stratosphere. Was thinking of going up it again (we did years ago for $5 each) but $22 each dollars just to go up  was a little too pricey for us.   We are going to see Shin Lim tonight at the Palazzo so we needed to scope out where to park for the show. Saw Trump tower, Circus Circus, Winn etc. drove very close to The Sphere. Ended up at the Bellagio. It has beautiful flowers everywhere. Took some picks of an area that was beautiful.  Cindy and I ended up playing video poker at the bar. Once again they comp'ed Frank and Lloyd’s drinks. We played awhile and ended up losing nothing.
